Thomas Metcalf Edwards was killed in a headon collision on the Banfield Freeway.  He had been a passenger in a car struck by another vehicle which had been traveling the wrong way down the freeway. He was 15 and a student at Lake Oswego Junior High School.

The man driving the car that hit Edwards, plead guilty to a charge of negligent homicide and was charged with the death of Thomas Metcalf Edwards in a head-on auto collision.
