Buz Howard

Robert Lee 'Buz' Howard, Jr.
Dec. 7, 1952 - Jan. 12, 2021
On Jan. 12, 2021 Robert "Buz" Howard, Jr., loving husband passed away. He was at home in Vancouver, Wash., with his wife, Sharon Ager Howard. Buz was born in Portland, Ore., to Robert and Mary (Knox) Howard. He was raised in Lake Oswego and attended Southern Oregon University. His deep appreciation for the outdoors led him to landscaping. In 1994 Buz and Sharon began their own business, creating art and selling their work at the Portland Saturday Market.
Buz loved hiking and back packing, with his greatest joy found in fly fishing. He considered the Deschutes River his backyard. For years he had great fun on the annual raft trip with his college buddies. He and Sharon camped and fished there often. He also enjoyed fall trips to Yellowstone with his brother Jeff. Buz had the best smile. The kind little kids love and that instinctively you respond to with the same. Even to strangers, he would offer a helping hand before being asked. Buz was a truly loving, kind, patient, gentle man.
Buz was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; brother, Jeff Howard; and two sisters, Cindy Howard and Jo Howard; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid, a celebration of Buz's life is postponed until later this year. The family suggests donations in memory of Buz be made to the Humane Society or a local animal shelter.

So sorry to hear the news about Buz!  He lived on Wembley Park Road and I walked by his house every morning on my way to school.  He was always nice to me and everyone.  I am glad he had great years spent in the outdoors.  Thinking of his family and hope you all treasure good memories of Buz.

Buzzy was my first friend when I moved to L.O. in first grade.  We were neighbors on Wembley Park Rd. and rode the same school bus to Lake Grove Elementary before Uplands was built.  I haven't seen Buz in years, but remember the great childhood we had togther in those days.  My deepest sympathies to his family.  Rest in Peace, Buz.

I'm feeling badly for Sharon Ager Howard.  They obviously had a long time together, which is great.  Just very sad it ended so soon. broken heart

I met Buzzy in 4th grade at Uplands Elementary.  He was always at peace.  We need more Buzzy Howards. He was a sweetheart of a guy.

I remember Buz always smiling... I thought he knew something I didn't... That he found humor in everything and everyone around him went without saying ... We need more hearts and souls like him... Rest in the Lord, Buz...

I'm so sorry Sharon. Bus was such a gentle soul and always had a cute little 😊 smile. Maybe he was just being his kind self but I never heard a negative thing come out of his mouth. The world could take a lesson from him. RIP Buz. Xo

Buzzy and I were pals at Uplands Elementary and his old house on Wembley Park was not far from mine as well as very near to a dear friend of mine who lives on Glen Eagles Court, so I have passed it often over the years and always wondered how his life had evolved. I was very saddened to hear this and am very sorry for Sharon's loss as well as for the rest of Buzzy's family. He was a kick in the pants and sometimes actually gave me a kick in the pants...mostly I remember laughing, teasing and running around in the forest behind Uplands and playing hide-and-go-seek. May his journey continue through new and peaceful forests!

One of most memorable camping trips back then was with Buzz. We went way up Herman Creek in the gorge. Had to cross the creek several times, got a bunch of stuff wet. Rigged a highline to pass backpacks across, a couple packs turned turtle and unloaded into the creek. We went dashing down creek for gear & grub.

Picked a bunch of fern curls and cooked them up, not bad. Hiked way up off trail to fishing holes. A couple of those took ropes for access. Caught a few trout for dinner. Was a good time with Buzz & pals.

My fondest memory of Buzz was also about hiking and camping.

4 days in the Wallowa Mountains. Playing cards crammed into a " tube tent" during a rainstorm. Swimming naked in an icy lake. And when we decided that the Olde English "cheese" that we brought was entirely inedible, a game of stickball with balls of cheese.

Sharon, I am so sorry for your loss.
