Gerald Joseph Bonnington passed away March 26, 2021 at his home in Prescott, Ariz.
Born in Travis AFB, Calif., (the oldest of seven children) he grew up in Lake Oswego, Ore., during the 60's and 70's. Jerry was a graduate of Lake Oswego High School (1971) and went on to earn a BS at Southern Oregon College (1975), a DDS at the University of the Pacific (1978) and then became an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon graduating from the Medical College of Georgia (1985). While attending Southern Oregon College he met his future wife Christy Davison. They were married in 1973. Jerry went on to become an accomplished Oral surgeon practicing in Tualatin, Ore., Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska.
Being outdoors was his passion. He loved boating, fishing, hunting, scuba diving and traveling. Jerry briefly held the Alaska record for the largest trout caught in the Kenai River. He was also known as an accomplished woodworker producing incredible furniture, bowls, pens and boxes. Jerry was an avid fan of the Oregon Ducks and the Portland Trail Blazers.
He will be greatly missed and remembered as a generous, passionate, fun-loving and intelligent husband, father, son and brother. Jerry is survived by his wife, Christy Bonnington; son, Andrew Bonnington; daughter, Alicia Bonnington; mother, Alice Giles; and granddaughter, Kate Bonnington. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. William R. Bonnington and his daughter-in-law, Angie Bonnington.
A private celebration of his life was held in Bainbridge Island, Wash., and his ashes were returned to the Pacific Ocean he loved so very much.
